Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league champions and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

However, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
